Headings Example: Universal Page (H1)

This is a Universal Page content type. On Universal Pages, Drupal automatically uses the page Title as the Heading 1 (H1).

Be sure to make your page title (H1) descriptive and concise. This is not the place for slogans, taglines or other marketing content. Your H1 should accurately reflect the main topic of the page content.

Because the Title is your H1, headings in the Body should begin with H2.

Section Heading Example (H2)

The major subsections of each page should be preceded by a Heading 2 (H2).

  1. Enter your heading text in the Body field.
  2. Highlight it and choose Heading 2 from the Paragraph/Heading dropdown.

Subsection Heading Example (H3)

Subsections under a Heading 2 should be organized under H3 headings.

Use a similar process to add a Heading 3.

  1. Type or paste (plain text) your heading text into the Body field.
  2. Highlight the heading text and select "Heading 3" from the Paragraph/Heading dropdown.

Headings on Universal Pages

Headings should follow a hierarchical order - H1, H2, H3, etc. - and do not skip heading levels. It’s okay to return to Heading 2 after Heading 3 when starting a new major section. Avoid creating headings by bolding or enlarging text - always use the Heading styles.
