Barri spent over 30 years as a staff writer at The Times-Picayune in New Orleans before making the switch to public relations in 2012. At Tulane, she helps promote the work of the School of Science & Engineering, the School of Liberal Arts, the School of Architecture, the Law School and the School of Social Work, among others. In addition to writing press releases, her work appears in New Wave and in Tulane magazine, the quarterly alumni publication.
As a reporter at The Times-Picayune, Barri won awards from the Associated Press, the Louisiana Press Association and the New Orleans Press Club. In 2006, she shared in the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for coverage of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. She is the author of Walking New Orleans, which features 30 self-guided tours ranging from majestic St. Charles Avenue and funky Magazine Street to Bywater and Faubourg Marigny, two of the city’s trendiest neighborhoods. She also snuck in a tour of the incredibly beautiful uptown campus. Her hobbies are mah jongg, movies, water aerobics and serving on several boards in the Jewish community. She has an amazing daughter, Sally, who is a producer for NBC’s “Meet the Press."
